Ozzy Osbourne, dead.

Massive coincidence, but this happened right as I was learning some Randy Rhodes on guitar and re-evaluating 13 as an album.

So my dad was a kid/teen in the 70s. He was there for the creation of SNL, Sabbath and a lot of other things that pop culture would produce but not piticularly be favorites of the older generations. Now many have stood that test of time, sabbath and Ozzy included. The first time I heard Sabbath was Iron Man at some point in the 90s. My family went to OzzFest 99 for my 13th birthday and seeing Sabbath live was amazing. So Sabbath and Ozzy had been a large part of my life in some way.

“Fun” fact, my grandfather lost his finger tips like Immoi did, in a landscaping accident.

However, given who Ozzy is, the event isn’t shocking, like John Lennon dying, rather more impactful to the landscape of the entire history of music.

Even if you’re younger than I am, you probably know who Ozzy is. He’s the Satanic Santa Claus that, if you’re extra, leaves you booger sugar in your stockings, instead of lame ass toys. /sarcasm

Obviously this is a devastating blow to his family and friends and that’s one of the most interesting take aways in all this. Normally a musician dies and people are left scratching their heads as to how the band will continue, ala Bon Scott and Ac/Dc. This isn’t one of those cases. Instead, especially given that Ozzy tended to estrange his band mates, it’s more, how will his legacy continue to grow? It’s closer to Hendrix dying than a band, in that regard.

Either way, only time will tell what Ozzy and by proxy, Sabbath’s lasting legacy will be.

Stay metal!🤘

Why Popularity Should Die a Horrible Death

I’ve spent the majority of my life not popular, and I’m very thankful for that. I never understood the concept of people wanting this as a thing. It’s one thing to be liked by people you have a mutualism with. It’s one thing to not want to make enemies either. However, the excess frequency of which people desire to have throngs of people liking them made no sense to me. I mean, relevant means something integral to the proceedings. Which means most celebrities are irrelevant on a daily basis. Why would anyone care about a random weirdo on the internet and even follow them with nothing in it for them?

I know people say, that’s easy to say, but not many have genuinely walked the path of resistance like I have. Here’s an interesting story.

Social media didn’t exist and back in my teen years, I lived up north from Biddeford and joined the high school. Upon joining the school, I was met with an accidental task, put a bully in his place. I did that and was apparently rewarded with social acceptance or popularity. Nothing like coming home and having the next door neighbor, also the landlord, talk about how I’m the buzz of social circles. Apparently because full grown adults have nothing better to do than talk about teenagers in the 2003 era.

Compared to other schools I went to, where such made you a bigger target, this was different.

So cool, right? Well, no. It was worthless. Compared to when I wasn’t liked by anyone. I made almost no money at anything I tried to make money at. I could not find a job, and this was a aera with zero opportunity , so it’s more intelligent insulting to hear “something will come up.” I was 17, my adulthood was about to start. Not something I wanted to hear at that point. Shit, I wasn’t even invited to parties I wasn’t going to go to anyways. Instead of it just being because we don’t like each other, it’s because I’m more introverted, according to them. To which I was like “No shit, I said that.”

Ironically, I got even less pussy options than I normally get for being disliked. Oh, I was considered attractive, but nothing like most just ignoring you in general. I had like 3 chicks that went to that school, that liked me enough for us to attempt something. one was a Christian that like my Elvis impression and that was probably the most interesting part of those three.

The best option I had up there was a woman who hung out with the sister of my sister’s sister. But her friend, who was also into me, pretty much banned her from being around me. Not a way to get on my good side. Apparently that girl became a low level model or something. I was told by the chick that banned her around me, years later.

So how’s that to the start to adulthood? This is what idiots I went to school with coveted? This is why they wore the same clothes as others to “fit in?” To not get laid? To not make money? What the fuck type of life is this? Needless to say, nothing went anywhere with anything. Not a horrible tradgy when you factor in there was nowhere to take a chick anyways. I spent most my time hanging with a 25 year old and his 18 year old friend playing cards.

Wasn’t popularity the thing that was supposed to be the opposite of this?

This is not how my life had normally gone, up til then. Shit at one point in my life, different area, they threatened to expel me from school for non conformity. I took them up on the offer. in essence, selling my soul for rock and roll. I digress though.

I would later meet some of the kids that went to that high school in a different aera and it turns out, they were confirming to Gen X/Gen Z style “personalities” and was weird, for them, to find out my personality aspects were genuine.

This is all relevant to a future article, I swear, however it’s important to note that this is why few things ever make sense to me and why I write. I need to make sense of a world that has never been intended for a man like myself. It makes zero sense. I may or may not be the only one that sees the insanity, but hey, that is life.

All I know is that infamy, seems to be the better gig in this world and maybe because you can’t spell infamous without “I’m Famous.” or maybe it’s because it forces these bitches to be real for once.

Either way, stay metal! 🤘

Top 5 songs that would have been better for Heavy Metal.

5.) Heart, Barracuda

A riff that goes heavy. Iron Maiden were probably the ones that popularized the metal gallop in guitar, however, Heart used it, in this 70s hit, combining that with high strings, you got something iconic. Apparently it’s based around a Nazareth song. There is slightly a bit of truth that they sound the same, but legally they’re vastly different. This one definitely gets the nod for giving you a dank riff to satisfy that metal craving.

4.) Neil Young, Hey Hey, My My

Moody, atmospheric and dark, this song is a key change away, or a distortion pedal away, from being one hell of a metal song.

3.) One more time, Brittney Spears

Ok hear me out before you scoff. New Found Glory already showed this song could fit into the rock category, but could you imagine the chugging with distortion on the opening beat? It would have made nu-metal dudes creaming their pants.

2.) Taylor Swift-Look what you made me do

Leap Frog Studios already proven this song could go hard as fuck! That how I even found out this song existed. The dark lyrics with straight up gansta vibes, would be having people starting mosh pits in the streets. definitely should have been in the genre from the start.

1.) Coolio Gangsta’s Paradise

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this song was never rap and always in line with the metal genre. Gritty realism, deaths, loss and more and you got a song that sounds like it could have been part of the Melodic Swedish death metal music. plenty of YouTube guitarist have proven this correctly.

Back From The Dead, Halestorm Review.

So I bought a new phone after years of saying no and dealing with either phones that came free with a switch deal or anything my sister or brother where getting rid of when they upgrade. Yes, I am that cheap. In fact, the last phone I got was a referb in 2018. It is now 2022, so let that sink in. Anyways, I have been listening to music more than I ever have in my life, given how amazing the audio is on this phone. Normally I don’t like to review music that is digital. I prefer records or cds if I am going to do this, but again, given the excellent audio, I will make an exception here.

So I was listening to this song and boy is it epic as fuck. Modern, yet old school. I then listened to the rest. All but one song does it for me, but this the best track.

Epic as fuck!

Now, apparently they’re currently on tour with Evanessence, some top notch shit. If you, like myself, have never heard of this band until a couple days ago, you owe it to yourself to check this album out. Now, 2022 has produced 6 months of some of the best music I have heard in years, but this album alone, might be record of the year in my mind. Nearly every song is, as the “kids” are saying now a days, a banger. If you’re a rock fan in anyway, shape and form, you also owe it to good taste to buy this album and blast it for the rest of the summer, and loud enough so your neighbors can know what a great album is is as well.

5 out of 5 stars.

EDIT: Only a day after posting this I went out and bought this album, in two different formats and a T~shirt.

Do You Want to Start a War?

I’ve never been one to review music. To me, it’s one of the hardest things to do and do well and I’m just not that educated when it comes to music. I have some rudimentary skills at the guitar, but I never was musically oriented as a child. So I’ve severally lacking in the ability to put into words what I’m hearing.

So here goes my first attempt ever to discuss a brand new record. Yes, record, because I bought the vinyl and am listening to the free auto-rip from Amazon.com and so far, I dig what I hear and want to share it.

Chris Jericho, pro wrestler par excellence and also, apparently, quite the vocalist. Although, not all credit can lie with Chris (Moongoose McQueen, if you prefer.) as his band mates might also be some of the best musicians of the last decade. I’ve known about the band for the last fifteen years, but sadly have never had the chance to sit down and listen to his music. You know him as the rock star of the ring, but the grandiose entrances doesn’t mean the ability to actually be a rock star.

One would be wrong to not give the band a listen as they might possibly be the finest band in the last fifteen years. A long list of bands have come into the metal scene, but few have had an impact on the musical landscape that Fozzy is seeing and will continue to have well into the future.

If you’re a rock fan or a metal fan than you are doing yourself a disservice by not buying this record on every format available, it’s that good. If you’re a fan of metal from the 1980’s, then you’re in for a real treat, because it’s been about 30 years since a band has pump out arena hits like this.

If you aren’t hooked by the ABBA cover SOS, than you have no pulse. If you aren’t having fun by the end of Tonight, you’re DOA and if you cannot enjoy the heavy sounds of Bad Tattoo, you’re six feet under.

I barley ever give five stars as a rating and this might be only the third time in my life that I’ve done so, because I’m not an easy sell, but five out of five.
